I second Nancy Wight's book recommendation.  Dr. Hanson's section on 
allergies and breastfeeding is up-to-date, thoroughly referenced, and 
scientifically credible.  He makes conservative statements about what 
we know and don't know.  Quick summary:  the evidence is mixed, with 
a slight edge toward bf having a protective effect.  The evidence *as 
a whole* does not support a claim (start of this thread) that bf 
promotes allergies.
