I second Nancy Wight's book recommendation. Dr. Hanson's section on allergies and breastfeeding is up-to-date, thoroughly referenced, and scientifically credible. He makes conservative statements about what we know and don't know. Quick summary: the evidence is mixed, with a slight edge toward bf having a protective effect. The evidence *as a whole* does not support a claim (start of this thread) that bf promotes allergies.
