Hi everyone, I wanted to share something. Lately I've had several new mothers ask about the ideal age to wean. They'd heard the recommendation to "breastfeed for a year" and assumed that meant "wean at one year." My response was that the AAP recommends a *minimum* of one year and as long after that as the mother desires, and the WHO recommends a *minimum* of two years and as long after that as the mother desires. It was a totally new idea to all of them that they could decide for themselves how long they want to breastfeed. Throwing in the word "minimum" gave them a whole new perspective. -Claire Bloodgood, IBCLC Georgetown, TX *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
