Hello everyone. I am a hospital based LC in Austin, TX. I0 have permission to post from a mother I have seen recently. She is 33 yrs old, G3P1. Wears a 36C. Her child is now 2 yrs old. She breastfed 4-5 weeks, weaned and leaked for 6 to 8 months then stopped. She has since become a single mom. 1 month ago while bathing, she noticed she had begun to leak again. She hadn't had any regular breast stimulation. I advised her to see her OB/GYN. She has had a negative pregnancy test, neg MRI (no pituitary adenoma) prolactin level 11.0, TSH 1.1, regular menses, generalized pain that she describes as "like after jogging without a bra". Regular underwire wearer - "always have been". Her only medication is Lexapro. She is a post partum/LD nurse. We did discuss the sympathetic nature of her work, exposure to cueing babies. SHe is awaiting an appointment with a breast surgeon. I had suggested an endocrinologist first but she feels the surgeon is the way to go. She is going to have a mammography also. I have searched the archives and found a few older posts (96/97 one suggestion from Dr. Jack that someone should do a study . . .), more recently a thread (2003)discussing the sympathy relactation and multiple comments regarding some women being far more sensitive to even low levels of prolactin and once you open the flood gates gettin' em closed is harder. Any more recent information? We'd appreciate the collective wisdom of Lactnet. Thanks.
