Hi! I was born and brought up in India and I would like to clarify that while it is not unheard of for husbands to ill treat their wives and beat on them, it is by no means a culturally accepted practice back in India to do so. This is in no way different from how we hear about wife battering here in the United States or for that matter around the world. Also, the practice of getting ultrasound done to determine the gender of the baby is illegal in India, though it is still prevalent in some rural areas. Breastfeeding is a norm in India, it is a common sight to see babies in slings breastfeeding while the mother is busy working. I am surprised this mother is not able to breastfeed. Mothers & mothers-in-law in fact are the only ones that teach the new mother the art of breastfeeding. There is absolutely no professional help as far as breastfeeding is concerned. I feel sad hearing about the predicament this lady is in and applaud Nikki's efforts to help her.
