Hi, June: How old is the baby? In my experience, the older the baby, the more likely he is to "strike" for whatever reason. It is indeed very possible the baby is remembering pain. Ear infections are VERY painful, especially when one needs to swallow. I still remember the ear infections I had on a regular basis all winter, every winter up until I was 7 years old and had my tonsils and adenoids removed. I was not breastfed. It was pure agony to eat and swallow while the infection was active. Lots of skin- to-skin and gentle, non-forcing of feedings should help and baby's interest should return. Mom needs to realize the baby needs to be reassured that the breast is again, a safe, comfortable, pain-free, enjoyable experience. Maybe, also, some co-bathing as well as co-sleeping during this time? Hope this helps this poor little one.
