I have a memory that powdered formula was recently discussed and someone mentioned that this was not to >be used on babies under one month of age. Is this just opinion or a formal recommendation? >Kathleen Huggins Dear Kathleen, Because a high percentage of powdered formula is contaminated with enterobacter sakazakii and/or salmonella, its use is not recommended for hospitalized neonates or any baby that is immunocompromised, i.e. premature, not breastfed. See FDA's letter to healthcare providers and recommendations if no alternatives are available. As far as I know there are no similar recommendations for powdered human milk fortifier. Anyone know if the risks are the same? http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/inf-ltr3.html Linda Anderegg, RNC, IBCLC, RLC in Chicago *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
