Hi, Jennifer: Let me clarify - I have never worked with a mom who loved (or liked) the nipple shield even when she knew it was necessary, as in your case. I have worked with many, many moms with situations similar to yours and have found that most of the "help" I was providing was of vast amounts of reassurance and cheerleading. Most of these moms go on to successfully wean from the shield, some do not, as mentioned by others in previous posts. As you, being a LLL person, certainly know, breastfeeding help consists primarily of emotional support and reassurance. Moms may accept the need for a shield, but they don't necessarily like it or love it. Just my 2 cents...
