Dear IBCLC'S; I am a CLE, CLC, working towards my IBCLC. I would like to learn from your knowledge base regarding a client. She is scheduled for a hysterectomy this week and is breast-feeding exclusively a one month old baby. She had a suspicious pap smear 2 years ago after her last delivery. The anesthesiologist plans on using Tramadol and is not willing to use any other medication and has suggested she stop breast-feeding. Her gynecologist is also not supportive. I have given her a hospital grade pump to use to start saving her milk for a milk supply while she is separated from her baby. She states that her husband will not be able to bring the baby to her to breastfeed since the hospital is over a half an hour away. She has other children and they cannot afford the gas or mileage. I am also concerned regarding her milk supply after surgery. I realize the pituitary gland is more responsible for making milk then the ovaries and uterus but I need your comments and suggestions of how to best help her. I am very new to Lactnet so I have not been successful so far in an archive search. Thank you and bless you for being there. Terri Klein RN, CLE, CLC, mom of three healthy breastfed boys. ***Note: The information contained in this message may be privileged and confidential and protected from disclosure.
