I agree w/ Jessica - we should set the norm and the expectation to bf exclusively and for an 'extended' period of time. That being said, I don't flinch anymore or try to convert moms that tell me they plan to bf for 2-3 mos. In prenatal classes I can talk more about exclusive bf and how long etc. If I have time and the mom seems open I of course will plant some seeds about longer bf. I always discuss exclusive vs mixed feeding w/ my inpatients, as the vast majority plan/do breast/formula. I have a handout about "making a good milk supply - exclusive bf is best." It gives the main points in bullet form. Laurie Wheeler, IBCLC, MN, RN New Orleans Louisiana, s.e. USA _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
