>A friend of mine has been asked to speak to her daughter's class >(grade 12) - the teacher started a 'bottle vs. breast' discussion in >class (one of those 'this is what you should know before becoming an >adult' type classes), and it came to where the teacher wondered if >her mom would come talk. In a recent campaign for general promotion of breastfeeding we found that teens commented on "10 IQ points lower IQ for babies who are formula fed". They not only commented but picked that point out consistently as being interesting. While many teens are so caught up in "it can't happen to me or my life" they certainly are aware of school, school achievement, school failure. In other words, it's relevant to *their* current situation. That doesn't suggest to offer ONLY that point, but it's a starting discussion that allows for the other points that are not so immediately relevant for teens to be approached. Also be prepared for the ickiness factor so many teens have for a kid sucking on something that clearly belongs to the boyfriend <G> My $.02 worth Judith PS And one hopes they don't go home and blame their mothers for their having problems in school!
