A good birth - that all-natural, raw, primitive aspect of giving birth where a woman embraces her instinctive abilities - helps a woman understand her unique ability and power of accomplishment, and that confidence carries into breastfeeding, and on into mothering in general. And though I have no references at hand, I have read that the more that childbirth is meddled with, the more you will find breastfeeding problems. Even the founding mothers of La Leche League noticed this in the 1950's, and encouraged mothers to have natural birth in an era of twilight sleep.
