I am five digests behind as I write this, please forgive me if someone (even another listmother) has already addressed this. Someone sent a query to the list, about an author who is also a Lactnet subscriber. Someone else responded to the query. Strictly speaking neither post was on topic for LN, and I hope I don't find a whole lot more responses to the original query when I get through these digests from today, because it is not the best use of this list. If you have ever corresponded with a person, they probably have you in their address book. Lactnet is a common meeting point for a few thousand of us. The author probably has corresponded with many of us; I know I have exchanged e-mail with an awful lot of subscribers here off the list, at one time or another. I have found it most effective to write directly to whoever is sending me promotional e-mails and ask them why I am on their mailing list. Usually there is a reason. If the sender is professional about the mailings you can get yourself removed from the list. This is unlike plain old spam and goodness knows I get more than enough of that, to the tune of 150 ads a day for enhancement of body parts I don't even have! The author in question is a reputable person and a supporter of both breastfeeding and loving infant care, as far as I know, and I doubt there is anything underhanded about her address book. If you think someone is using Lactnet to get e-mail addresses of potential customers, ask them. (If mailings from someone bother you, you can block messages from them too.) If you uncover something you feel is misuse of this list, please let us listmothers know first. Thanks.
