Hello all I had a former patient stop in for a visit becasue it has been two years since she nursed and she is still making milk. Her breasts feel "like I have a perpetual headache in my breasts". The intensity of the ache varies. After 2 years of not nursing, she has had it. She tells me her physician has run tests and they don't point to anything in particular. I explored possible causes for persistent milk production from sadness of knowing that she would never be able to nurse a child of hers to medication that is known to stimulate milk production. I shared with her substances that are known to decrease milk production such as peppermint, sage, pseudaphed, and cabbage leaves (especialy for the discomfort). What do you think about her taking Oral contraceptives for several cycles? She stopped producing milk when she conceived baby #2. Any suggestions?
