Hello, Fellow Lactnetters! I will be presenting a 30 minute session on "Sucking Patterns, Breast vs Bottle" at a Lactation Conference next week. My session will be geared for new IBCLCs, WIC counselors, nurses, etc.; not advanced practice LCs. Do any of you have any ideas for a hands-on teaching strategy illustrating the difference between the breast and bottle in a baby's mouth? I'd like to have something for each participant to try. I've thought about using a Tootsie Roll Pop (a round lollipop) and having them suck on it (they would all have their own, of course!) with just their flanged lips and then bringing it all the way into their mouths and sucking on it, but it obviously isn't the best demo. since it's a hard candy. I'm sure there are many creative people in this forum that have done this before. I'd appreciate any ideas you have to share! Thank you!
