Probably just a matter of semantics, but when Nikki states: "I am
concerned about this, because in my
experience red nipples can lead to problems in a few days.",  it
sounds like she is saying that the red nipples directly lead to
other problems when I think we (including Nikki) would all agree
that red nipples are symptomatic of other problems.
Perhaps something like, "When I see red nipples, I usually see other
problems such as poor weight gain, if not immediately, then within a
few days.  If we can change what's making the nipples red, we should
be able to avoid the other problems which might follow."
Please, don't anyone take this as a criticism of Nikki.  It is just
meant as another take on how what we say might be worded
differently.  As usual, hindsight is always 20/20 or better.
