OK....here is my rant for the day. I saw this commercial for the first time several weeks back. On a Monday night during "Everyone Loves Raymond." (Good marketing time, I don't recall EVER seeing a formula commercial during the 'family hour before!) The banner floating across the screen proclaimed that their product contained the same nutritents that are in breastmilk. "Its the good start that will last a lifetime." How come they get to make that claim??? Where is the science, that they demand from breastmilk advocates, to back up their ads????? Where are the studies that actually show that this ARTIFICIAL MILK has any advantage to babies and children. To the best of my knowledge not only has there been ANY published info (in this country) stating that this product is advantageous but the Institues of Medicine has yet to publish their studies on the SAFETY of these additives. And that report was due out last fall....now suppose to be released next month. We will see. WHY doesn't the President of the AAP have a problem with this ad campaign???? Why is THE DOCTOR not demanding to see studies to back up their claims??? WHY does he NOT have a problem with huge corporations running the largest EXPERIMENT on infants in this country??? How about his proclamation of wanting the best for our children??? One would think that would include promoting proven nutrition as well as the prevention of disease. That would be BREASTMILK. Shame on him and all those who have allowed to remain in his position w/o questioning his integrity. Wish I felt just a tiny bit better after this rant. Just made me angrier.
