I envy those of you with high initiation rates. At the hosp. where I work, which has had a bf program for only 2 yrs (since I asked to start one there), the initiation rate is hovering at 50% up from the 30-40% ranges. Of course, the continuation and the exclusive bf rates are quite low. I would say the exclusive bf rate is close to zero. The Southern USA, African American women, and WIC (low income food/formula supplement program) participants have low bf rates. This describes the population I work with quite well. Every once in a while I like to check on bf rates around the country and the world. Why don't we all post our current rates? Thanks. Laurie Wheeler, IBCLC, MN, RN New Orleans Louisiana, s.e.
