We're not a Baby Friendly Hospital : ( but we do give a nice Breastfeeding friendly gift bag. It is a large canvas tote with "The Nursing Mother's Companion", a pair of flannel nursing pads and a tube of Lansinoh. We pay for the bags, and a volunteer puts them together. We still give out those vile formula marketing bags (and I say if I can get rid of them I will die happy). They are supposed to be given out by physician order only, but mother's bring in those coupons and most of the nurses just give it to them. Most of the nurses just don't "get it" about the formula marketing bags. When I orient a new nurse (they all have to spend 3-4 hrs with lactation) I say they are not "gifts" and they do not support breastfeeding, they in fact can disrupt breastfeeding and their only purpose is to promote formula.
