Dear Marsha, This is tough news and I do believe you should go forward with your grievance. Try and find who are your best allies and see if any of them can write support for you and if there are any of them in upper management that you can have at your side during this process would be helpful. Put everything you can remember about the incident in writing first, including references, for those reading to understand that your comments are based on science. When you meet with the powers to be, be humble and state that your compassion for the well-being of the mother and baby were always in the forefront. State your understanding how this compassion may be seen as undermining the clinician but that was not your intentions. If they will not reinstate you find out if they will at least give you a good reference. I have had similar stresses at work and worry if a physician who does not support breastfeeding can bring me down. I am filling out my paper work for my 10 year recert and one of the questions asks if there ever been any grievances against you? What are they looking for? Would Marsha have to write this on her recert? I feel LCs are in the hot seat most of the time and when we are dismissed from a job due to others ignorance, should we have to pay the for it?
