Dr. Mimi, I'm not sure if you were referring to my post or another poster who later commented on it, however, I respectfully stand by my statement below: "When pediatricians try to thwart good public health messages and practices it looks like they have a vested interest in keeping babies and children sick." That statement was used to end my letter to the AAP addressing the Ad Council campaign situation. I do not believe that this is a generalization about all pediatricians. Your points are well taken. However, I have seen some highly unethical behavior on the part of *some* pediatricians that can lead me to only this conclusion. My husband is entirely convinced that pediatricians that do not enthusiastically support bf are truly working to keep children sick to ensure they have a thriving practice and make more money. I argue w/ him that this just cannot be true, but he firmly believes it. All kinds of people really do thwart bf for a variety of reasons, some devious and some altruistic.
