i wonder if anyone would know about this. i have a mom i've been working with on and off for over 2 yrs now. her baby is 2 and is having oral surgery to have 2 front teeth removed on thurs. the original oral surgeon told her he would not even consider the procedure until he was fully weaned as they also would not do it on a baby that is still on a bottle or paci. he told her babies should be weaned by 1. (@@ - that's the emoticon for an eyeroll) so she found another oral surgeon. this one is fine w/ him still bfing but is very firm that she may not bf him for a few days to 2 wks after b/c of dry sockets and suction aggravating the potential or somesuch. this mom is frantic and beside herself. i have suggested she pump to keep up her (waning albeit existent supply - he is self-weaning) milk, but she is very economically challenged and does not own a pump nor can she afford to rent one even for a few days. she is terrified her supply will fade totally while he is barred from the breast and he will effectively be weaned. i've discussed manual expression ... but this mom really seems to want a concrete answer on whether or not she really has to refuse him. she understandably lost some faith in the oral surgeons after her experience w/ the 1st one! if anyone knows for sure, i would love to be able to at least reassure this mom one way or the other that a course of action is truly in her child's best interest. thanks in advance, i love this list. (i was just wondering today why we don't all pay a small fee to be members here (i know i would!) and then have it go toward promoting bfing...you know, a commercial to tell ppl all about what's REALLY in those comfort proteined formulas and why bfing is better...) ~jacqui gruttadauria~ *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
