Ann There are few contraindications to bf (HIV in USA, untreated TB, etc). Look in any text and show mom. Kidney stones or laser treatment for kidney stones or even renal surgery is not a contraindication for breastfeeding. Gently tell the mom to leave the kidney disease treatment to the kidney experts and leave the breastfeeding 'treatment'/management to the breastfeeding experts (us). Keep breastfeeding! The only caution would be to prevent engorgement if she is separated from her infant. Express or feed before the procedure, and express or feed asap after. Express milk and leave for infant prior to procedure in case there is a long separation. Post-procedure meds, if any, would also be a minor concern, but the usual analgesics, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics are ok. If she is in hospital after procedure, see if she can get permission in advance to have her infant visit her to feed. Fax the info to the doc if he resists.
