Cindi, Re the BF: could the baby have some degree of tongue-tie (ankyloglossia)? Re the PPD: definitely talk to the OB; ask for a referral to a psych doc (MD or therapist). I was just talking to my colleague and saying that we (the LC) spend so much more time with the mother/baby dyad and observe so much more than the MD. Often the MD just doesn't get as much info/assessment as we do. Share your findings/concerns as you did in your lactnet post and specifically state that you feel the mother needs a referral; then f/u with a written note/fax to the doc. <<Mother is extremely emotionaly labile. Crying one minute and laughing the next. Dressed for the 1st time at 2 weeks pp. Shaky, hyper, exhausted. We're thinking maybe thyroid now or PPD or a combination. Mother is educated and intelligent, but states that she can't seem to remember anything or concentrate anymore. She is almost obsessive about making lists so that she can remember.>> Laurie Wheeler, IBCLC, MN, RN New Orleans Louisiana, s.e.
