We are a little confused why Dr. = > Meek is speaking on this subject, has any one else attended a lecture by = > her on this topic? > Margaret, I think this is a golden opportunity for you and your partners. Can you go (for the benefit of Lactnet) and simply not accept any freebies -- i.e. take your own Krispy Kreme & Starbucks w/ you? I would LOVE to know what she has to say -- I don't know why she is on their speaking circuit, but she may have no qualms about taking $$ from formula companies -- or she may be doing it for free (we just don't know). Anyway, I have question that I'm not sure anyone has addressed and would love it if you could ask her. That is, what impact does supplementing a breastfed baby with these *new & improved (TIC) formulas have on the DHA & ARA in the breastmilk? We know that giving iron fortified formulas can impact the lactoferrin in the breastmilk and allow for proliferation of E-coli -- I'm really curious as to what impact (negative OR positive) these formulas may have. (I know they are iron-fortified, that's not what I'm asking here). I'm very concerned that they may render the DHA/ARA (or some other substance) in the breastmilk non-bioavailable. And, if she says that they don't think there is any negative impact, then I want to know how many exclusively breastfed babies they supplemented with these formulas and then tested to make SURE there was no negative impact. Pretty please?
