Linda,
A baby of 8 lbs needs just about 20 oz of milk per 24 hrs (8 x 2.5). So it
sounds like baby is taking in enough (19-26 oz). Babies w/ down's syndrome
do not grow like normal babies. I believe there are special charts to track
this. I would make sure the baby is seeing someone knowledgeable about
Downs' syndrome, maybe his hcp is not. Maybe a developmental peds doc would
be better. Also make sure baby's general health is checked out thoroughly
and looking for associated anomalies that could affect growth and health,
for example cardiac issues. From your info, I would not go in for the
lactoengineering at this point. I would suggest mom practice attachemnt
parenting to the max and frequent feeds which helps the calorie count.
