Kate I appreciate your suggestions on earth friendly terminology. Today I used the dustbuster/vacuum cleaner analogy that I read on lactnet. I like that one. My bike/car analogy seems to work well with the clientele I see. Many many mothers return to work early and many pump exclusively for ebm feeding and their milk supplies 'dry up' due to use of poor pumps, among other reasons. By the way, I always try to show and talk about hand expression and provide a handout on it (I use the Medela sheet on engorgement w/ hand expression on the back). I explain that women all over the world use hand expression quite effectively. And also it is very good to know in case you are somewhere w/o a pump or electricity. Here in New Orleans we lose electric power during tropical storms and hurricanes, and even during some severe thunderstorms.
