Hi Everyone, We are currently looking for an addition to our hospital based LC program and the discussion on RN or non-RN IBCLC has been very enlightening. In my search to validate the IBCLC designation as a stand alone certification, I came across the ILCA publication from 1991 on the Competencies for Lactation counselors. Those who have the IBCLC designation are responsible this very lengthy and complete list. Does anyone know if this document is still valid, or if there is a newer one? Two of my co-workers who are IBCLC's swear they have never seen this document. I think it is wonderful (if a bit humbling) and wonder why it is not more widley utilized. It certainly might help a potential employer take a second look at what our scope of practice involves.
