> I too, would be interested in the >creation of a coalition of environmental groups and breastfeeding >organizations, so that the promotion of either breastfeeding or cleaning up >the environment is not done at the other's expense. There seems to be a lot of interest in working on this area. Here are a couple of first steps that I see: 1. We need a comprehensive (or as good as we can get) list of breastfeeding and environmental organizations that might be interested in working on this. Several have been suggested already: ILCA, LLL, USBC, Infact, WABA, What am I leaving out? 2. People involved with the various groups need to put this issue on the agendas of the organizations. Can this be brought up at conferences? Board meetings? Newsletters? I'm not sure what the best venue is for each group. the more people who bring it up and the more board members of each group who bring it up the better, I think. 3. Is anyone on Lactnet involved with environmental groups as well. Where do we begin there? Once we have a sense of organizational interest etc. then it will be possible to think about how to get the organizations to work most effectively together. We are all on the same side and each group has its expertise in both information and strategies. 4. It would also be valuable to develop (and keep updated) a bibliography of articles, books, websites with good quality information on this topic. It's a broad topic and will probably need to be subdivided into categories. I don't yet have enough of a sense of the literature to know on what lines to sbudivide it. Am I leaving out anything big to get us started? Is anyone interested in taking on any of these (or any other tasks) to get such an effort off the ground? I have begun collecting articles, and other references, although so far my list is quite small. If anyone has a bibliography already developed, I'd be happy to work on creating a usable reference list.
