I have run across a question that I can't find an answer for concerning the use of vaginal betadine wash after delivery. According to ILCA's Core Curriculum, a pumping system in the breasts readily pumps iodine into milk compartments, and it suggests that high doses should be avoided, including vaginal betadine (#10, p. 359). Also, Dr. Hale (2002) lists betadine as an L4 medication (p. 585). Since this is regularly used during the postpartum period, I need information about regulating the amount and/or use for breastfeeding mothers. Thanks for any replies, Margaret Pierce, RN *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
