All this talk about tasting breast milk stimulated me to drink some of my own milk tonight to get a good impression (rather than the drops I regulary lick off my hands or Eva's mouth - messy feeders!). This morning I expressed a feed so I could go and get some bf references out the library. I put the milk in the fridge this morning and it never got used (my daughter has decided she is a purist but that's another problem) so I drank some tonight to see what all the fuss is about. Tastes fine, although I must admit I'd rather drink skimmed breast milk as I can't stand full fat cow's milk either. Of course in this case n=1. I'm wondering whether the revulsion is culturally induced in some women? I've brought expressed breastmilk to bf class before because I thought it might be interesting for the mothers to see what it looks like; blue watery layer, creamy top etc. Most of the participants were interested but a couple found it definitely 'weird'. Also makes me think that just about everyone will suck there cut finger and don't mind their own blood, so why not milk? Actually, I have a strong inclination to believe that the sort of revulsion to one's own breastmilk is to a certain extent culture. Just like the aversion some people have to bf in public.
