>>Prior to surgery baby will be fed pedialyte (remember baby is 12 lbs.), and they are planning a g-tube for afterward. Doctor wants a CLEAN colon for the procedure. Mom sent an email to Dr. Jack, but I remember his note to us all about being GONE throughout August. Anyone ever work with a Hirschsprung's disease situation?<< Debbie, I don't understand giving Pedialyte instead of breastmilk since breastmilk is considered a clear liquid. But then again I know many doctors equate breastmilk with "dairy." The pediatric gastroenterologist who treated my youngest ds for severe ulcerative colitis when he was 2 yo wouldn't allow him anything but clear liquids (beef broth was the only thing offered) the evening before my ds' colonoscopy and nothing by mouth after midnight. He specifically told me not to nurse my ds because he said breastmilk is a diary product. Ugh! If I only knew then, what I know now.
