Responding to two posts... This is very basic, but since it had not yet been mentioned... In addition to adding better absorbed iron to the diet, this mom may want to add vitamin C rich foods (or a supplement) to further aid absorption and avoid calcium rich foods when taking the iron. The calcium competes with the iron for absorption sites. If this mom is eating a lot of dairy or taking her supplements with milk, she may be undermining the effectiveness of the iron pills. Just a thought:-) For the May first meeting on Formula additives. I live in the area (Alexandria) and would be available to attend and voice our collective concerns. I am not very well versed in genetic engineering or formula manufacturing, so I would need support and studies from a more knowledgeable Lactnet member. I am not currently employed so I have the time to dedicate to the study of this topic before the meeting. As a former theatre major, my public speaking skills are excellent and I have no fear of speaking in "less than supportive" groups. Please contact me if you think I can be a help. Charity M.
