Hi, ladies. I had my third baby on Easter Sunday at Vanderbilt Hospital. I
was COMPLETELY disheartened upon discharge to be handed NUMEROUS formula
coupons and a pack of breastmilk storage containers marked "Similac Formula
Breastmilk Storage Containers". Not a single thing in the bag (whether
breast or bottle related) was without a formula endorsement directly on it.
This was particularly disappointing after I saw so MANY excellent
pro-breastfeeding pamphlets, posters, signs, etc., posted all over the
hospital (including my OB's office in the attached Vanderbilt Clinic) that
were quite emphatic and persuasive with their breastfeeding statements.
Vandy also had some good IBCLCs who are required to make a visit with each
patient within 24 hours after birth. I actually thought based on what I
observed during my pregnancy that Vandy was moving ahead with the
times...only to be handed a formula goody bag at my birth. Any suggestions
as to what the polite yet proactive thing to do would be?
