One thing I find interesting is that the FDA lists as pumps not to be used by more than 1 person the Nurture III pump, but the manufacturer states it can be used by multiple users as long as they have their own kit. They have a filter between the tubing and the pump (which they recommend be changed every couple of weeks) so in theory nothing will get into the pump motor. Ironicly this is how Ameda is now advertising their pump. That with the diaphragm it has been proven that protects the milk from comtamination of bacteria and viruses from the pump and tubing from a prior use or prior user. But it is still listed as a single user pump. It just get more confusing when talking to parents about pumps when they ask about getting a used one. Especially new parents concerned about saving money will buy used stollers, cribs, clothes, etc (although car seats are considered the same as pumps, use new or one you know the history of - as in it was for your previous child).
