-- Well i know at least 2 pharmacists in Michigan USA that -- do know tons about breastfeeding -- myself, and my dear husband (I'm IBLCE certified x2 and he's not -- but he has been my study buddy for both exams -- i am sure that he knows more than he ever wanted to know) & been kind enough to be vice president of my business -- after 15 years in business & 2 daughters who self weaned sometime after their 2nd birthdays. -- I have been lecturing at Wayne State University School of pharmacy -- each semseter for over 7 years -- a 3 hour class About medications and breastfeeding and of course you can not get away from the formula/drug company politics -- and there is never a free lunch. Every couple of months a former student will call for info -- or I will bump into students who are now practicing -- who vividly remember my class. -- It may very well be time to lecture again for the pharmacist association yearly conference as i have done in the past -- -- I am sure that the pharmacists and technicians that i have worked side by side with all these years have picked up quite a bit -- by hearing me over and over again -- especially on thrush management and sore nipples. -- even if you can get one of your local pharmacists to know what a lactation consultant is and to get them to purchase tom hales books -- you can make significant inroads to helping the breastfeeding couples. -- and yes i still get very upset when one of my learned pharmacists tells a breastfeeding Mom she has to wean -- because they do not have the updated knowledge or are willing to search out the information. I used to give/mail a general information sheet to all mom's who called me about medication advice -- including my business card and company flyer -- it may very well be time to update and start sending it out again Anne Norton-Krawciw, RPh, IBCLC Breastfeeding Specialists http://breastfeedinghelp.org *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
