"It is to say that if we create a witch hunt atmosphere that makes it impossible for anyone to work professionally because nothing is pure enough, no one will be left but the volunteers." Well put. Barb! Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal world. In the hospital where I work, I am not in a position to make all the feeding decisions for every mom/baby pair. Many things are done that I cannot agree with in good conscience. However, I cannot change everything at once. I have to pick and choose the battles considering such things as: 1-how much time can I devote to the battle and still meet the needs of the moms who want help? 2-how much can I "stir the pot" at one time and still keep the respect and progress that has been made so far? 3-how much do I feel I can nudge the "powers that be" at one time? Sometimes I have felt in the responses to posts I have made as well as what I read in the responses to others, there seems to be an attitude of "just state the facts, they'll have to change". "Don't you know ...........is the way it's supposed to be done?" There is quite a gap between the ideal world ant thr reality one. Not that we should stop striving toward the ideal one, we just have to realize that change usually comes slowly In fact, I believe that often it is the slowly won battles that stay "won" the longest. Quick change can lead to more dissatisfaction and desire to change again just as quickly. Not only is it the reality of needing income to survive, in my case, it's being close enough to retirement age that it would be very difficult to get another position if I leave this one in frustration!.
