Kirsten writes about a very frequent feeder and asks:
"I wonder if this is a mom with a "low" supply? But then why won't the
baby
take the second side right away?"

We hear about how moms can have varying "storage" capacity. Has anyone
ever questioned whether babies who nurse frequently have smaller stomach
capacity? Although baby took 4oz.from a bottle, was that because he
really "needed" it or because milk keeps dribbling out of a bottle and
baby kept swallowing as long as it was running into his mouth. One
stool a week may be perfectly normal for 2 1/2 months-would worry more
on that item if it was in baby's first month. Has she tried breast
compressions? It certainly could coax baby to continue longer at the
breast at each feeding.

While frequent nursing may be normal for this baby, many parents find
it hard to cope with. Lots of reassurances that this totally dependent
phase will pass and looking back in the future it won't seem as
overwhelming as it does when you're in the thick of it.
