I was just remembering my own son's surgeries. I started thinking about the
time he was scheduled for the "12:00 noon" surgery, second case of the day.
He finally went in for the surgery at 7pm. (I kid you not. Unfortunately,
the child before him had numreous complications and we were delayed quite a
bit.)

So my advice, having gone through this many times now, is to MAKE SURE the
baby is scheduled for first case in the morning. A fasting infant is not a
whole lot of fun in any case, but a fasting infant that keeps getting
pedialyte for hours because the surgery will "be in the next couple of
hours" is even worse. We were given the option of delaying the surgery for
a few days and being the next case on that day, but once you're prepared to
hand your child over to an anesthesiologist, you don't want to have to wait
and do it another day.

Just a personal thought.

Trish
