I just got this joke in my email today: "A hospital posted a notice in the nurses' station saying: "Remember, the first five minutes of a human being's life are the most dangerous." Underneath, a nurse had written: "The last five are pretty risky, too...." I suppose some of you might have heard this one before, but it's pretty telling, IMO. If people (ie hospital staff) believe that there are huge risks to being born, then it makes perfect sense that you can do whatever you need to do to the newborn. Heck, the baby has survived those first 5 minutes, it's fair game now. Kate, leaving my sig file on today since I think the quote about myths is also telling. ===== Kate Hallberg,http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~kolina/ mom to Ursula (7!), Sage (4.5) and Benno (almost 1!) "As Tolkien well knew, fact does not teach as well as myth, rarely elevates, hardly ever inspires, seldom touches the heart. It doesn't matter if it's factually true. A good story needs no defense, only to be told." - Dark Cloud, http://www.darkendeavors.com/radio/1219.htm __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Check out Yahoo!
