A postal worker in the DC area called today to ask about medications which
she has been encouraged to take due to all the anthrax contamination in
postal facilities in this area. They recommended a 10 day course of
doxycycline and then increased that to 60 days. Her pediatrician was OK with
the 10 day course, but wants her to wean ASAP now that she will be on it for
60 days. Are any of our medication people (Dr. Hale or Dr Nice) out there
with an answer? The baby is 10 and 1/2 months old. Dr. Hale's book says L3
for acute use and L4 for chronic use, but also defines short term as several
weeks. Mom gave me permission to post and also wants me to see if anyone
feels that Cipro would be a better choice...doxycycline was chosen because
she is breastfeeding. Becky B RNC IBCLC
