I was just teaching a class to outreach workers - Keys to Caregiving, it's
called - but I always put some breastfeeding into it...

Well, I was reviewing the necessity of OBSERVING a mother and not just
taking her word that she knows things - as part of the 4-step teaching
program (Assessment, education, demonstration, feedback) - such as
breastfeeding, mixing formula, etc.

One of the workers, an experienced one, agreed and gave an example that
brought tears to my eyes - a baby had a white mouth, and they thougth it
had thrush...when the worker observed that the mother would mix the
formula, put it, nipple and all (which was wet with the formula on the
inside when it was shaken), into a microwave - heated it then put it in the
baby's mouth!!!! Baby would pull and back away, but mom was VERY
insistent!

Another reason for breastfeeding????
