I am so glad to see Dr. Gordon's response. The differences for larger babies,
between gaining 5-7 ounces a week minimum, and doubling the weight by
six months can be large. A ten pound baby who gains 1.5 pounds per month,
after the first two weeks, will not double by 4 months or even 6 months.
However, an alert, active, happy six-month old who weighs 17 lbs is normal,
and no cause for over-reaction to not doubling the birth weight. Just a
Zebra (love that term).
Thanks,
