Hi Meg Guidelines for collecting, storing ebm for compromised babies in hospital settings are much more stringent and need to be. I recommend the use of sterile, rigid containers, not bags in these cases. If you are talking about a working mom or an at home mom storing extra ebm for her own healthy baby, then I recommend clean vs sterile techniques. If you want to sterilize the ice cube trays before using, then you could run them thru a "sani cycle" on a dishwasher top rack, if available. Dont' know if they would be able to be boiled. The ones I have seem that they would stand up to it. Like you said, freezer bags are not sterile, and don't need to be for a healthy baby. I tell moms to think of their ebm as food, and generally handle and store as you would when preparing or freezing your dinner. Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC Violet Louisiana, s.e.
