Lactnetters, OK, I'm frustrated,...again. I wrote an edition of my "Keeping A'Breast", a little teaching idea of mine for posting in the BR at the hospital here where I work(that's the best reading place for nurses!!). This month it's on "What I tell moms who ask, (and sometimes I just tell the info) about pacifiers and bottles." Well, you can guess what I said...Along side of my article comes the rebutal. Baby Talk Magazine with an article about how 5% of mothers can't breastfeed and supply their baby's with complete nutrition and that many mothers for this and because "it's just too tough"(my interpretation) have to both breast and bottle feed. Sprinkled thru the article are quotes from Marianne Neifert, M.D.that suppport this authors ideas about how mothers need to supplement and it's just too tough for some mothers to breastfeed full time. AHHH! Well, that's all some of these nursery nurses need to delete my ideas from their thoughts. "A doctor says", said one of them. "There is no such thing as nipple confusion!" I when to my file and pulled out Marianne Niefert's article on "Contemporary Breastfeeding Management" and found that, as I thought, many of the quotes are out of context. Now why does she allow that? Does anyone have any thoughts about this. And why does it appear in a magazine that my hospital gives out to all moms in a gift pack??? (I'm screaming!!) Does anyone have her address? I'll write to her and ask?
