Michele, I don't know where in Kentucky you are but I'm going to guess on the other side of the state from where I once lived. I lived in far western Kentucky for a number of years -that's where my lactation career began- and found them to be very progressive, where I was. In fact, they had an LC 14 years ago in the local hospital (she took the first test given by IBLCE), my hospital here in Indiana just got it's first one when I came 6 months ago! I do know that WIC in KY had a very strong and proactive breastfeeding program. You might try your local office and see who their coordinator for breastfeeding is. The one we had advanced the cause of breastfeeding in our part of the state more than anyone else and I know she had support and even a mandate from the state for what she did. I moved 7 years ago, but I hope that hasn't changed as it would be a step backward. In fact, I've said ever since I moved here that we are just now fighting battles here that were fought and won there 10-15 years ago. Hope this helps! Good luck with fighting the "good fight". Marsha, who thinks I probably would have been stoned a few centuries ago for my "rebel" ideas and ways! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marsha Glass RN, BSN, IBCLC Mothers have as powerful an influence over the welfare of future generations as all other earthly causes combined.
