About when you *need* to start solids, someone wrote: >I posed this question to my dietitians' listserv and there was some >info >provided about a 'small window of opportunity' to introducing >solids, >somewhere in the 6-12 month range. It has been covered at length in the archives. There was ONE STUDY, done years ago, on MENTALLY RETARDED children, with a sample size of NINE. There is NO RESEARCH that suggests a "window of opportunity" exists for introducing solids to children. Around the world, there is a huge range of variation in when children start solids, both within and between cultures. In some places, they start solids as early as a few weeks, in others, children are not routinely given solids til 8-10 months.
