Dear Lactnetters,
Have you ever noticed how "new" innovations seem to pop up throughout
the world at the same time? There's a term for this, I believe, but I can't
recall what it is.
Anyway---it seems that the wave now is for Breastfeeding Centers.
Over the past few months we have learned of Kathy Leepers, Beth Ricci's, and
now Kathy's. Bravo!
My partner, Colette Acker, and I have recently formed a non-profit
corporation called the Breastfeeding Resource Center. Our two goals are to
provide lactation consultation services to breastfeeding families regardless
of income level or ability to pay, AND to provide clinical education
experiences for resident physicians, visiting and physician office nurses and
aspiring LCs. We hope to become self-supporting ,but are busily writing
grants to get started.
We have a fabulous board of directors that includes enthusiastic
physicians, an attorney, a social worker, a dietitian, university profs and
volunteer counselors.
I am sharing this news with fellow Lactnutters because
a) I'm hoping someone might have some leads on potential donors or
foundations who give to non-profits serving women and children,
b) I'm hoping someone with more experience than we have might be willling to
review some of our grant proposals to make sure they have the proper pizazz
and format before we send them off, and
c) Colette and I are very excited about this and love to tell people about it!

Anyone with any input/ideas/suggestions/willingness is invited to be in
touch. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing about the swell of this next
wave in our profession!
