Dear Lactnetters,
I am posting for an LC friend at another hospital, and appreciate any comments.
A 6.5 month old infant who received a bone marrow transplant at 4 months old for I-Cell disease (??? sorry, this may be incorrect spelling) now weighs 10 pounds, 7 0z. Had surgery on Friday at a large metro university hospital in Mpls.
Mom is from a small out-lying community. Baby has dark mucousy stools, nurses 10-12 x a day, refuses bottles. ABM was tried at some point when baby was younger, routine cow's milk based and nutramigen, and baby threw it up. The concern is baby's health, low weight, and Mom's milk supply.
My friend was consulted with on Friday and started the mom pumping, with the plan to add some hind milk during feeds with SNS. Also to start fenugreek if necessary. She wonders if human milk fortifier would be a good choice, do many of you have experience with this?.......comments welcome.
       Thank you.
