It lists budesonide (brand name Rhinocort or Pulmicort) as category L3 or "moderately safe" for use in breastfeeding mothers. When used intranasally - less than 20% of the dose reaches systemic absorption. Using commonly prescribed doses of this medication in intranasal form would be unlikely to result in a dose that would be clinically significant to the breastfed infant. No adverse pediatric events have been reported from use in breastfeeding mothers and this drug is used in pediatrics down to age 6. It is not well absorbed orally (about 10% of dose). Unfortunately, I have deleted the original post - was this mother using this drug intranasally? Hope this information is helpful. Pamela Berens M.D. (OB/GYN)
