Dear Diane, These were verbal toddlers that I was referencing, not babies. I have seen one of them take out the pacifier, throw it to the floor, crawl up in mom's lap, and ask to nurse (or use their special nursing word, etc.) I have also heard these mothers say something to the effect of, "Okay, you act like you need to nurse.", and the child would either accept or decline, depending on what was going on. I'm not a pacifier advocate at all, but there are times when I think my 2 year old would be happy if my breast were detachable so she could nurse on the run! (kidding of course!) Just clarifying...
